Self heal is often considered to be the best all-around medicinal plant. This unassuming plant takes care of problems with lungs, liver, kidneys, blood, joints, cancers, ulcers, tumors, swellings, and back trouble.
At least 200 compounds have been isolated from the plant and a majority of these have been characterized mainly as triterpenoids, sterols and flavonoids, followed by coumarins, phenylpropanoids, polysaccharides and volatile oils. Self Heal also contains vitamins A, B1, C, K, antioxidants, minerals, bitters, rosmarinic acid, and mucilage.
Well known for its support in strengthening and building tissues. It helps stimulate the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, strengthens the heart, supports healthy blood pressure levels, helps clear the respiratory system, lymphatic system, inflammation in the digestive system, helps balance the thyroid and immune system, increases the sensitivity of insulin which prevents diabetes and effects of metabolic syndrome.
An immunomodulator which lowers the extreme response of the immune system to chronic inflammation and seasonal allergies.
An excellent anti-viral, effective against herpes and human papilloma virus. It is used to treat sore throats and other infections of the mouth. Historically, the herb was prescribed for treating diarrhea and boils. Some recent researched conducted on self-heal is said to have shown signs of remedies prepared from the herb's extract to slow down the cell division in HIV. Chinese herbal medicine practitioners use self-heal to lower the blood pressure as well as act as an antibiotic. For ages, self-heal has been extensively used as a wound herb for its properties to impede bleeding from the wounds as well as the ability to speed up the repairing process.
Self-heal is used for inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and problems in the stomach and intestines.
