My home, during the Winter Solstice, becomes the center of my joy. The sights, the smells, the crisp air on your face, the snow crunching beneath your feet, the smell of simmering cranberries, fresh bread baking in the oven, gingerbread and tea and cocoa and pies and cookies! This time of year is a carnival for the senses.
The crinkling of paper being folded around surprise packages.
Logs crackling in the fireplace and the hot bubbling of chili simmering on the stove.
The needles and boughs of the evergreen trees.
One of my all time favorite things to do is sit in front of the fireplace, with only the twinkling holiday lights and the smoldering fire for light.
A cup of my Winter Solstice morning hot tea, spiced with all the flavors of the season, makes it all a moment truly worth savoring. This blend captures all that special holiday cheer with flavors that grow in intensity with every sip.
Frost-spikes hang off the window sill like a phantom’s glassy fingers. The pine sweet smell of the tree, ghosts through the room, intertwining with the enveloping, oven scents.
The star-flash of tinsel glitters brightly, and ribbons of flame dance in the hearth of the fire.
Sit back, take a deep breath; breathe in all of the sounds and feelings. Breathe in the aroma of Keemun black tea, enriched with the flavors of cinnamon, orange peel, cloves, rosehips, peppermint, hibiscus, and nutmeg. Allow the heady scent to intoxicate your senses, until that long anticipated moment, when you savor your first sip.
